Joy Behar might have just implied that she’d rather choke than let a Donald Trump supporter give her the Heimlich maneuver.
It was a big day for the co-hosts of The View, who dedicated the entirety of this morning’s episode to discussing today’s presidential election. Fortunately, they were able to have a little fun with the stressful topic.
At the end of the episode, Whoopi Goldberg introduced a Hot Topic segment about a woman who ditched an old flame mid-hookup after realizing he was a MAGA supporter — which, according to Behar, was the right move.
“I wouldn’t even let him give me the Heimlich maneuver,” she joked. “That’s how little I feel about people. I don’t — no.”
Behar went on to explain why she wouldn’t be able to date someone with different political views than her.
“People who believe that stuff, they’re just disregarding everything that he has said and done — trashing servicemen, trashing John McCain, speaking ill of women, being held liable for sexual assault,” Behar said. “It means you are in agreement with that. How can I be in a relationship with you? I cannot.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin added that while she was just fine with her friends supporting Trump, she could not be in a relationship with someone who voted for him.
“I have friends who are going to vote for Trump today and I will still love them and respect them tomorrow even though I fundamentally disagree with that decision,” she said. “But an intimate partner — that would be tough. I need shared values very closely with somebody that I’m in a relationship with.”
However, Griffin — who previously worked under Trump’s administration before resigning in 2020 — noted that “New England Republicans” and “Southern Democratic” gentlemen are her “favorite” types of men, describing them as “moderate, sound-minded, and just very decent people.”
