The renowned prestigious honor, which was initially known as the “Downtown Athletic Club Trophy,” was renamed in 1936 to honor John Heisman, who was the athletic director of the club.
The individual honor trophy is designed by a widely renowned American sculptor Frank Eliscu, who passed away in 1996.
The trophy approximately weighs 45 pounds and depicts a football player performing a stiff-arm maneuver. Reportedly, it was modelled after former NYU running back Ed Smith.
Heisman Trophy 2024 Schedule
The iconic individual honor, Heisman Trophy 2024 is set to take place on Saturday, December 14, 2024. This year’s ceremony will be hosted by notable personalities such as Kevin Negandhi, Holly Rowe, and Neil Everett.
For the curious, Heisman Trophy ceremony will held at the New York City Marriott Marquis. The event marks the third time the venue has hosted the ceremony.
