According to media reports, Kelly Cates and other members of the redesigned team taking over the football round-up will quit their jobs at Sky Sports. She is reportedly joining a new trio that will succeed veteran Lineker, which also includes BBC Sport announcer Gabby Logan and current Match of the Day 2 presenter Mark Chapman.

Kelly Cates grew up in Southport and is the oldest of four children born to former Celtic and Liverpool manager and player Sir Kenny Dalglish and his wife Marina. Paul, her brother, played football professionally as well.
Lynsey and Lauren are her two younger sisters. In Glasgow, Kelly married Tom Cates in 2007 and the two parted ways in 2021 but their relationship is amicable, which helps her juggle a hectic work schedule with the two having two teenage daughters together.

Kelly Cates was a member of the presenter lineup for Virgin Media’s new portal and a presenter on Sky Sports News. In 2007, she was a presenter on Setanta Sports News and conducted interviews with football players and managers for Setanta’s coverage of the Premier League.
She was a member of the ESPN crew for their coverage of the Premier League for the 2009–10 football season, co-presenting Talk of the Terrace with Mark Chapman and Series 2 with Nat Coombs. She provided the sports news on GMTV in May 2010 when regular host Dan Lobb was not there. After that, Cates covered the 2010 FIFA World Cup for ITV.
Cates hosted Football League Tonight on Channel 5 with George Riley during the 2015–16 football season, where he presented weekly Football League highlights.
Cates’ return to Sky Sports to host their live coverage of the Football League was announced on August 3, 2016. Cates left the EFL in August 2017 to host Premier League games on Sky Sports, including Friday Night Football (FNF) and Saturday mornings (later Saturday evenings due to rights changes). It was announced in December 2024 that she would be joining the BBC as a co-host of Match of the Day, the long-running Saturday night highlights program.
