Mike Shorer had earlier said while talking about the trophy, “It’s such a buzz, upwards of 20 million people might have seen that trophy since I made it, it’s quite a thing. It’s become the brand image of the entire event. Darts fans around the world know this trophy above all the others.”

After earning a diploma from the Sir John Cass School of Art, Mike Shorer, a seventh-generation goldsmith, became the studio manager of a well-known jeweller in the London Society. He created pieces for the Royal Family, musicians, athletes, and movie stars when he was employed in the capital.

“My father was the senior conservation officer at the British Museum,” Mike stated. In addition to being an archaeologist, he was a skilled diamond mounter and conducted numerous studies on historical metalworking methods.

There were a lot of hammers and files rattling around when he was a kid since he had a studio at home. As a boy, it seemed inevitable that h would begin to beat the living daylights out of things.

Mike has now created trophies for a variety of Hearn activities, such as BMX racing, horse racing, fishing, and snooker.

Additionally, he has kept up his commissions for the Royal Family, 10 Downing Street, movies, television shows, corporations, and individual customers.

After the PDC decided to dedicate the trophy’s name to the renowned commentator who died in August of that year, Mike Shorer created the Sid Waddell Trophy in 2012.

He passed away on August 11 2012, his last commentary being the 2012 Premier League final between Phil Taylor and Simon Whitlock on May 17.

The 28-inch structure bears a plate with Waddell’s signature on it, and its base is made of the same Eritrean marble that Michael Angelo used in the Sistine Chapel. The trophy stands at around 28 inches tall and weighs 25kg.

In order to represent the bullseye on a dartboard, the trophy also features six silver rods that rise from the base and reach up to a garnet and an engraved silver globe.

The first Sid Waddell Trophy was presented to Phil Taylor in 2013 and each year the world champion is given a half-sized replica of the championship, while the original is put back into storage following the trophy presentation.

Meanwhile, the Ballon d’Art trophy, which is 840mm tall, weighs 16kgs and has three golden darts and the gong is a creation from tournament sponsors Paddy Power and is handed to the player who produces the most 180s.
