Armie Hammer is back. The actor, who faced sexual misconduct allegations in 2021, will star in the lead role in Uwe Boll’s The Dark Knight, Variety reports.

The actor will play Sanders, the “crime-fighting” lead character in the vigilante thriller, which is set to begin filming in Croatia later this month, according to the outlet. “The story of The Dark Knight couldn’t be a more current topic, and I’m excited to bring it to life with this excellent cast,” Boll told Variety.

Michael Roesch, the film’s executive producer, told the outlet that “our movie is very different from Chris Nolan’s movie, so there is no danger of confusion.”

“With Armie Hammer in the lead role and more great actors to be announced soon, and with an outstanding script, we are excited to build up on the great response we got for First Shift and Run, and will have another strong movie soon,” Roesch added.

The film news comes a few days after he appeared on Christina Pazsitzy and Tom Segura’s podcast Your Mom’s House. On the show, he discussed how Hollywood shunned him after being accused of rape and having cannibalistic fantasies. (The Los Angeles County district attorney declined to charge him in 2023.)

“The world seemed like it was falling apart, and people were just deeply unhappy with their own lives,” he said on the podcast. “And then this salacious story comes around where this actor wants to murder and eat people. And all of a sudden, everyone’s like, ‘Oh, this is so much more fun to focus on than the fact that I can’t leave my living room.’ And then stories kept coming out and kept coming out and kept coming out.”

Hammer’s first acting role following the allegations was the independent Western film Frontier Cubicle, which also stars Thomas Jane and William H. Macy. Back in October, Hammer also announced The Armie HammerTime Podcast, where he “sits down with extraordinary people from all walks of life as he rebuilds his own.”

“Don’t worry… we feed him before every episode,” the podcast’s description quips. Hammer added of the podcast on social media, “Some of you are going to love this and some of you are going to fucking hate it.”
