Multiple celebrities have been fled their homes as the destructive Palisades Fire in Los Angeles raged on in Southern California alongside several other blazes. After the fire broke out on Tuesday, propelled by high winds, Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore, James Woods, and Heidi Montag were among the 30,000 residents under an evacuation order.
Hamill shared an update on Instagram, confirming that he evacuated from Malibu at 7 p.m. and that it was “so last-minute there were small fires on both sides of the road as we approached PCH.” After confirming that he arrived safely at his daughter’s home in another part of Los Angeles, the Star Wars actor called the blaze the “most horrific fire since ’93” and urged his followers to stay safe.
Moore also evacuated the home she shares with Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith and their children. She wrote in an Instagram story that she was safe with “kids, dogs and cats” and “praying and grateful for the first responders.”
Woods, who lives in the impacted neighborhood, live-tweeted a series of updates, including videos of the blaze. This morning, the actor seemed to confirm that his house was lost in the fire, writing, “All the smoke detectors are going off in our house and transmitting to our iPhones. I couldn’t believe our lovely little home in the hills held on this long. It feels like losing a loved one.” He added, “It tests your soul, losing everything at once, I must say.”
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro was also evacuated, according to the Hollywood Reporter, as was actor Eugene Levy. The Schitt’s Creek star told the Los Angeles Times that the “smoke looked pretty black and intense” in the Palisades, where he is the Honorary Mayor.
Many other actors and musicians offered support on social media, including Billie Eilish and Chris Pratt. “Please send prayers and strength tonight to everyone in Los Angeles affected by these devastating fires,” Pratt wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to the brave firefighters and first responders who are working tirelessly to protect lives, homes and wildlife as they battle fast-moving wildfire fueled by fierce winds. You are true heroes, and we are endlessly grateful for your sacrifice and courage. Let’s all come together to support one another during this tough time.”
The Hills stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt documented themselves evacuating their home on social media. They later shared that their house had burned down. “Update: I’m watching our house burn down on the security cameras,” Pratt said.
Palisades resident Steve Guttenberg went viral for helping with the evacuation efforts in the Palisades. The actor spoke to a KTLA reporter about why he was moving abandoned cars blocking the streets and offered a plea for those fleeing the fire to leave their keys behind. He added, “We got a huge fire up there, we got huge winds right now and it’s really important for people to help each other. It’s really important for everyone to band together and not worry about your personal property. Just get out. Get your loved ones and get out.”
On Tuesday, the high winds in Southern California fanned several blazes across the Los Angeles area. Pacific Palisades saw a 300-acre fire spread to more than 1,200 acres in a span of 90 minutes, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. About 30,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate, and more than 10,000 homes are threatened by the Palisades fire, said the Los Angeles fire chief. By Tuesday night, the fire had expanded to more than 2,900 acres with no containment, according to KTLA.
This morning, California governor Gavin Newsom confirmed that “hundreds of additional firefighters are headed south to join 1,400+ boots already on the ground” to fight multiple fires in the area.
