Phillip Hughes’ death
The cricket community was deeply shaken by the death of Phillip Hughes on 27 November 2014 after the young Australian cricket player died after a bouncer struck his neck during a local match.
Discussions concerning cricket safety were sparked by the widespread grief over his passing. What makes Hughes unique is his talent and passion for the game. As family and friends remembered the late Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes on Wednesday, the tenth anniversary of his untimely death from a blow to the neck while batting, Sean Abbott was seen blotting away tears.
During a 2014 Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Abbott produced the delivery that killed Hughes.
NSW players comforted Abbott as they stood for an emotional tribute that included a minute’s silence before play began.
