The tears just won’t stop coming! Today‘s Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager were weepy during Friday’s (Dec. 13) broadcast as Laid star Zosia Mamet began gushing about her close friendship with Kaley Cuoco.
Mamet shared that it was “love at first sight” when she met Cuoco during a chemistry read for The Flight Attendant.
“I think it’s really special when you find someone who can make you laugh,” Mamet told Kotb and Bush Hager. “No matter what, no matter what we’re going through, no matter what the day brings, no matter if we’re working a 16-hour day, 18-hour day, we just always make each other laugh. It’s really great.”
The Today hosts shared a meaningful look with each other as Mamet’s statement moved them to tears.
“I’m crying because she and I laugh together and she’s leaving,” Bush Hager explained, referring to Kotb’s impending retirement. Kotb’s official last day on the show will be Friday, Jan. 10.
Mamet continued, “It’s the best, its the best. When you get to work with your best friend, what could be better?” But when she noticed that both Bush Hager and Kotb were crying, she exclaimed, “Oh my god! Aw!”
Bush Hager and Kotb shared a laugh over their emotional reaction to Mamet’s statement. “Oh my God, everything is… we’re really in a tough place,” Bush Hager said with a laugh.
Kotb agreed, adding, “We can’t help it.”
This is the second time the co-hosts have cried on the show this week alone. During Tuesday’s (Dec. 10) broadcast, they both became emotional after Kotb told Bush Hager on the air that she loved her.
“Oh God, what’s happening?” Bush Hager asked as she realized she couldn’t stop the tears from coming. She then jokingly added, “Today is the depression stage.”
Bush Hager joked that she was going through the five stages of grief.
“Denial lasted a good month, anger was last week when I tried to make you jealous with Gayle [King],” she joked through tears. “I bargained with God basically every night for the last couple of months, and now I have depression.”
Today with Hoda & Jenna airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
